National President
Navy League of the United States

America faces a security crisis and I need your help.

The fleet of the U.S. Navy has dropped by nearly 50% since 1987 to just 296 ships today. This represents the smallest Navy in our Nation's history since 1917.

Rebuilding America's Navy and other sea services will only be achieved through an active education campaign, which is why I am excited to announce that the Navy League of the United States, in partnership with The American Shipbuilding Association, is re-launching its Sea Power Ambassador Program. But we will only be successful if we have your vigorous support and active participation as a Sea Power Ambassador.

The mission of every Sea Power Ambassador is to educate the American public and elected officials on the need to rebuild the fleet of the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard to meet America's security requirements in the 21st Century.

Please join our critical mission right now by signing up to be a Sea Power Ambassador.

Community Affiliates Bring Growth, Ideas, Future Leaders

By JAMES D. HESSMAN
Senior Writer & Editor Emeritus

The "key to the future" for many NLUS councils may be the recently revitalized community affiliate (CA) program, according to Frederick C. Orton, vice president, membership, for the Pacific Southwest Region, and for the past several years one of the League's top recruiters of community affiliates.

NLUS councils who want help with their CA recruiting program should contact Waylett at Navy League Headquarters, 2300 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Va. 22201-3308; by e-mail at wwaylett@navyleague.org; phone 703-528-1775 or 800-356-5760; or by fax to 703-528-2333. *
